Yamhill County Sheriff Will Conduct Enhanced Traffic Enforcement Over Labor Day Weekend.

The Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office will increase patrols over the Labor Day Weekend in an effort to minimize and reduce the negative impact of impaired drivers on law abiding motorists. These extra patrols will take place September 4th to September 6th, 2020.

If you plan to host a party or attend a party where alcohol is being served you can take some precautions beforehand to avoid what could be a deadly end to the night.

* If you host a party and provide alcohol, make sure to also include food and non-alcoholic beverages. Monitor your guest’s alcohol consumption and take the keys from a guest who has had too much.
* Use public transportation or a taxi;
* Ask a friend who has not been drinking for a ride home;
* Promote the use of designated drivers and stop impaired family or friends from driving;
* Always wear your seatbelt.

If you see a suspected impaired driver please call 9-1-1 and report them. Some signs to look for are:
* Swerving or weaving in and out of a lane;
* Stopping abruptly at traffic signs or signals;
* Making unusually wide turns;
* Driving over curbs;
* Driving with headlights off at night.

North Fork Road Closed Due To Forest Fire.

Marion County Sheriff’s Office received information from the US Forest Service of a fire in the Opal Creek Wilderness area near Beachie Creek. The fire is burning approximately 10 acres. North Fork Road (FR2209) is closed at the forest boundary, including Three Pools and Opal Creek trail, all of FR2207 from North Fork to French Creek Road is closed. At this time the US Forest Service and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue are working together to facilitate evacuations of the aforementioned areas. These areas remain closed until further notice.


On Sunday, August 2, 2020 at 6:20 P.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a crash on Hwy 213 and SE Luther Rd.

Preliminary investigation revealed that an Easy Motion electric bicycle, operated by Nolan Heine (67) of Portland, was riding northbound and attempted to cross Hwy 213.   As Heine was attempting to cross the roadway, a witness believes he was struck by a white moped/motorcycle, who was also traveling northbound. The moped/motorcycle rider paused briefly before continuing northbound on Hwy 213.

The rider is described as a male wearing a black helmet and white t-shirt.

Heine was transported to Oregon Health Sciences University where he later succumbed to his injuries and died.

Oregon State Police is requesting any witnesses to the crash, have any information regarding the crash, or know the identity of the moped/motorcycle rider to contact the Oregon State Police Northern Command Center at 1-800-442-2068 or *OSP and refer to case # SP20-217251.

Oregon State Police was assisted by Clackamas County Fire Department, AMR Ambulance and Oregon Department of Transportation.

ODOT Schedules Online Open House For Safety Improvements At OR 551 and Ehlen Road.

Construction to begin in spring of 2021

AURORA— An online open house is currently being held for a project that will improve the safety and operations at OR 551 (Wilsonville-Hubbard Highway) and Ehlen Road located between Interstate 5 and Aurora in Marion County.

Construction is expected to begin in spring of 2021. We encourage you to find out more about the project and its construction impacts by visiting the online open house athttp://oregonevents.org/openhouse/or-551-at-ehlen-road. The online open house will be available until August 31.

The OR 551 at Ehlen Road Safety Project includes:

  • Building signalized left-turn lanes on each side of Ehlen Road at the intersection with OR 551.
  • Installing a concrete traffic separator on the west side of Ehlen Road to restrict left turns from Boones Ferry Road to OR 551.
  • Building a new county connector road between Boones Ferry Road and OR 551.
  • Constructing dedicated right-turn lanes off of OR 551 onto the new Julia Road NE.

The Oregon Department of Transportation and Marion County have been working together to improve the safety and operations in the area where both Ehlen and Boones Ferry Roads closely intersect OR 551 causing both safety and operational issues.

Access for pedestrians, including those with disabilities, will be available and identified through or around the work zones.

Fatal Crash On River Road Claims One.

At 5:21 pm on July 28th, 2020, deputies were dispatched to a serious motor vehicle crash on River Road NE at the intersection of Clearlake Road NE, just north of Keizer.  When emergency responders arrived on scene, they discovered two vehicles were involved in the collision, a silver Ford Taurus and a green Ford F-150.  The driver of the Ford Taurus sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene, the two passengers from the car were taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  The driver of the Ford F-150 also sustained non-life threatening injuries and was also transported from the scene by ambulance.

Investigators from the Marion County Multi-Agency Crash Team were called to the scene.  During the investigation, deputies learned the Ford Taurus had been traveling eastbound on Clearlake Road NE prior to the crash.  The driver of the Ford Taurus is believed to have failed to stop at a stop sign prior to entering the intersection where it was struck by the Ford F-150 which was traveling southbound.

The driver of the Ford Taurus has been identified as, Jacqueline Cavero Chavarry, 39, of Sheridan.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office was assisted during this response by the Keizer Police Department, Marion County Fire District #1, Keizer Fire Department, Marion County Public Works, Marion County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Marion County District Attorney’s Office.


Early Morning Crash Near Hubbard Results in Serious Injuries. LifeFlight Transports One.

Today, July 21st, 2020, at approximately 3:49 am deputies received a 911 call reporting a serious injury motor vehicle crash in the 11000 block of Feller Rd NE, in northern Marion County.  When emergency crews arrived, they found a single vehicle crash with two patients, one of whom was in critical condition.  Life Flight was requested and transported the passenger to a Portland area hospital where they remain in critical condition.  The driver was taken by ambulance to a Salem area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

CRASH Investigators were called to the scene and are working to determine the cause of the crash.  Marijuana use has not been ruled out as a possible contributing factor.  Feller Road was closed following the crash and during the investigation, reopening just before 8:00 am.

A determination regarding charges related to the crash will be made after additional investigation has been completed.  The driver and passenger’s names are not being released at this time pending family notifications.

Latest Riot In Portland Closes All Freeway Off Ramps Leading To Downtown To Address Thuggery.

At the request of the Portland Police Bureau, ODOT has closed freeway off-ramps leading to downtown Portland. This includes off-ramps from U.S. 26, I-5, I-84 and I-405. We expect  these closures to be in place until midnight tonight but conditions may change as we continue working with the Portland Police Bureau.
